He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in environmental science from the University of Colombo. He has over 25 years of combined experience as an acoustical consultant in Sri Lanka and North America, specializing in environmental and architectural acoustics.
He has extensive experience assessing environmental noise and vibration in various fields, such as oil & gas, transportation, mining, industrial, and construction. Saman has conducted hundreds of sound and vibration measurements in the field, predicting future effects using national and international standards implemented in noise modelling software and investigating noise mitigating options. He has been involved in industrial and community noise regulation development, regulatory compliance monitoring programs and evaluation of Environment impact Assessments in Sri Lanka.
Saman has performed architectural acoustics design work for a multitude of commercial and residential building projects in Canada and the USA; this was done to reduce environmental and mechanical noise and improve speech intelligibility, room acoustics and airborne and impact sound isolation. As an architectural acoustician, he has played a role in designing major projects in Canada and the USA, including high rise office and residential buildings, hotels, educational facilities, university buildings, hospitals and recording studios.
Saman’s objective as an acoustician and consultant is to protect individuals from adverse noise and to guide facility owners to smooth completion of the project and create a healthy operational environment, which will be done by providing better planning and mitigating solutions.
